What a fabulous experience! In my backpack I hauled watercolor paper, pencils, impromptu “easels”, brushes, and cups all the way from Richmond, VA to Hinche, Haiti to volunteer with Midwives For Haiti.

Nature Journaling at Rockwood Nature Center
Nature Journaling gives us opportunities to deepen our relationship with the earth through writing and art. It is a means to record thoughts, feelings, and observations of the natural world around us. Join our staff art instructor and master naturalist for an introduction to this exercise in becoming more in tune with your own connection to our environment. This four week series of courses will meet at the Rockwood Nature Center. Please bring a sketch pad or blank journal to use in class. Participants must register two weeks in advance. The minimum age for this course is 18. $30/person for this series of 4 courses.
Fridays, July 10, 17, 24 and 31 6pm – 8pm
course # 29973
Last night I taught my first Pine Needle Basket Weaving class at Rockwood Nature Center. It was a bit slow going but everyone was a beginner. We achieved only a two inch section! We will speed up next week, beginning at the center is the hardest part. The basket shown above is the first pine needle basket I’ve ever made.
“Acadia National Park” 18″ x 24″ acrylic on canvas
Well, I did get it done! My next step is to begin planning for the ladies’ night. (They all seem up for the challenge.) Ladies’ night is when I have a group of friends over to paint and relax with a beverage. It’s learning and socialization at the same time. You can see images of my first painting night offered here

If you live in my area and would like to hang with friends and paint, let me know. I do these from my home studio and accommodate four friends.
